East Pointe East Pointe - East Providence, RI

The Gifford Design Group provided delineation and permitting services for this 'brownfield' site along the Seekonk River. The project was one of the first to be regulated under Rhode Island's Urban Coastal Greenways regulations. The project provides coastal habitat and public access while ensuring adequate space for shoreline protection structures. As part of this effort, a coastal wetland mitigation plan was developed to replace, at a 2:1 ratio, a portion of salt marsh that must be lost during construction.

Weekapaug Inn
Weekapaug Inn & Cottages - Westerly, RI

The Gifford Design Group provided Coastal Resources Management Council permitting services for this historic inn renovation project. Project elements include demolition of outbuildings near the coastal feature and construction of a new service wing and cottages farther inland, which enables restoration of a significant portion of the coastal buffer. All project elements were developed with the goal of obtaining LEED certification. The resulting project provides improved environmental protection while maintaining the historic character of the site.
